Research Overview

LL-37 is the C-terminal 37-amino-acid active fragment of human cathelicidin (hCAP-18) and a key human cationic host-defense peptide. It exhibits direct antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi and broad immunomodulatory effects in vitro and in animal models, including anti-biofilm and immune-signaling roles. LL-37 is not an FDA-approved anti-infective; clinical translation has been limited by issues such as cytotoxicity, salt sensitivity, and potential for bacterial resistance.
