Research Overview

IGF-1 LR3 (Long Arginine-3 IGF-1) is a synthetic analog of human IGF-1 in which glutamic acid at position 3 is replaced by arginine and a 13-amino-acid N-terminal extension is added, reducing binding to IGF-binding proteins and prolonging half-life relative to native IGF-1. Native IGF-1 has been studied clinically (e.g., recombinant IGF-1/IGFBP-3 for myotonic dystrophy and metabolic effects), but clinical evidence specifically for the LR3 analog in humans is very limited; IGF-1 LR3 is not an approved drug and is noted as a doping agent in sports. Evidence is largely preclinical/mechanistic.
