Mechanism / Biological Target
Homing peptide binds prohibitin on white-adipose endothelial cells; the D(KLAKLAK)2 domain disrupts mitochondria to induce apoptosis of the adipose vasculature, leading to fat resorption.

Research Overview
Adipotide (FTP; prohibitin-targeting peptide 1) is an experimental proapoptotic peptidomimetic (CKGGRAKDC-GG-D(KLAKLAK)2) designed to target prohibitin on white-adipose-tissue vasculature and induce apoptosis, reducing fat mass. Studies in obese mice and rhesus monkeys reported weight loss and improved insulin sensitivity. Evidence is preclinical only; adipotide is not an approved drug, and animal weight-loss findings should not be presented as established human efficacy. Renal adverse effects have been a noted concern.
